I am a former badminton athlete from Indonesia. I only spent six months at PPPK Petra before moving to Jakarta to further develop my talent in badminton. Despite the relatively short duration, I found the school to be comfortable for learning, with a pleasant classroom environment. The school is located in a good and comfortable area in the midst of the city. My parents entrusted me to PPPK Petra because Petra is one of the best schools in Surabaya. It is crucial for children to receive education not only in formal subjects but also in terms of creativity and social activities.

With the talent that God has given me, I am grateful to have achieved several accomplishments in badminton, including the gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in the Men’s Singles category, Champion of the Malaysia Open 1995, Champion of the Indonesia Open 1993, and several others. I retired from the world of badminton after the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Since 2003, my activities have been focused on running a business in sports equipment under the brand ASTEC (Alan Susi Technology).

I maintain relationships with fellow alumni to this day. I hope that fellow alumni can support each other, provide useful information, and maintain good communication. I support IKAPETRA as a channel for communication among PPPK Petra alumni.

I invite PPPK Petra alumni to join IKAPETRA and be a blessing to fellow PPPK Petra alumni. Thanks to IKAPETRA, even though my time at PPPK Petra was brief, the attention from fellow alumni makes me proud to be a part of IKAPETRA.

I remember those times very well; it was indeed a challenging period. Many alumni went abroad for further education, particularly to Germany. Among them, there were those who achieved success in foreign lands, such as Mr. Oei Tien Hay, a radiology specialist with numerous patents for his works. During high school, this mother was known for her intelligence and was a star student in her class. She recalls that during her time at PPPK Petra, there were four classes with a capacity of forty students each. She was particularly impressed by one educator, Mr. Ir. Lie Tjoan Kwan, a math teacher who was skilled, brilliant, and a role model for students. Ir. Lie Tjoan Kwan was one of the architects of the Heroes Monument in Surabaya. She expresses her gratitude to Mr. Suwandi (one of the PPPK Petra administrators), who, at that time, was a German language teacher and provided significant assistance by offering references such as books and folk songs.

She hopes that the quality of education, which has been well-implemented at PPPK Petra, will be maintained while continuing to focus on moral and Christian values, essential for the future generations.

Initially, she, a graduate of Airlangga University, worked as a dentist. Since 1967, together with her family, she ventured into the instant seasoning business with the ‘Bamboe’ brand, which has become well-known among the Indonesian community and Indonesian students studying abroad. She believes that through IKAPETRA, indirect business relations can be established among alumni.

She welcomes the formation of IKAPETRA as an official platform for PPPK Petra alumni. Transparency and good governance are key to the success of supporting IKAPETRA’s programs. Alumni can learn from the experiences of PPPK Petra alumni who have achieved success through the IKAPETRA platform.

I express my gratitude to PPPK Petra for the education provided to all students, the culture of discipline, and the educational atmosphere created in such a way that students feel comfortable pursuing education at PPPK Petra.

Perhaps it is because of one of the factors mentioned above that I now have a family business that has developed significantly in the field of funeral services. From the initial business location at Jalan Dinoyo No. 94-96, Surabaya, I have expanded the business by opening a branch at Ruko Gading Fajar II B6-17, Sidoarjo. One of the principles in our family business is that all members of the company organization (from the highest to the lowest levels) must contribute to maintaining a high-integrity reputation in the eyes of the wider community. This means being active in social activities in non-profit organizations such as hospitals, orphanages, church-related activities (diakonia), and various other associations.

I hope the Alumni Association of PPPK Petra (IKAPETRA) is one of the solutions for alumni scattered around the world to communicate, share experiences, and build strong networks. Amidst the daily busyness, IKAPETRA is the right platform for engaging in social activities that benefit the environment and society. In today’s modern world, networking plays a crucial role. With the help of technology and adequate infrastructure, everyone can create their own network. One of the criteria for entrusting responsibility to someone and their involvement in an organization is having a broad network.

My hope for the IKAPETRA organization and its leaders is to establish good cooperation among alumni, organize social activities beneficial to society, and be a non-political and non-profit organization. I invite fresh graduates to join IKAPETRA. May IKAPETRA enrich networking among the many existing networks.
